Pregnancy & Postpartum Mental Health Disorder Self-Test

Pregnancy and postpartum mental health disorders affect 20% of moms and 10% of dads. A pregnancy or postpartum self-test can help determine if you need further support and treatment. Are you pregnant or the mom of an infant or toddler and find yourself bothered by:

  • Intense anxiety or worry
  • Sleeplessness, even when baby sleeps
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sadness and tearfulness most days
  • Confusion and poor concentration
  • Irritability, anger, or rage
  • Guilt
  • Feelings of inadequacy
  • Extreme fatigue and feeling overwhelmed
  • Scary thoughts you can’t stop
  • Fear of harming your baby or yourself
  • Just don’t feel like yourself?

If so, you are not alone. About 1 in 5 mothers have these same symptoms, which are signs of treatable medical conditions called pregnancy and postpartum mood or anxiety disorders. Commonly referred to as “postpartum depression,” these symptoms often begin during pregnancy. They also affect around 10% of all fathers as well.

A mental health disorder self-test, known as the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Questionnaire (EPDS), helps mothers and fathers determine whether they are suffering from a pregnancy or postpartum mental health disorder.

You can complete the EDPS below. The information will be reviewed by a WellMama volunteer, and WellMama will contact you about your results only if you indicate that they may. WellMama can provide you and your family with support, information, and help to feel better emotionally during pregnancy, the first few years postpartum, and around any reproductive health event such as fertility issues, perinatal loss, or adoption.

The EPDS Score is designed to assist, not replace, clinical judgment. Answers other than “never” to question 10 suggest you should call your healthcare provider or WellMama (1-800-896-0410) for an assessment.
